According to a recent source, Google is currently testing a new sharing interface on Chrome with a QR code generator and screen capture tool, despite a lot of mixed reviews for the share menu on Android all this time.
The share menu on Android has been met with mixed reactions all along. With Android 10, Google has improved shared spreadsheets by organizing as well as improving sharing suggestions. However, its own applications such as Photos, YouTube, and News, in turn, use different approaches to display the share dialog. And now, they're testing a new sharing UI on Chrome, including a QR code generator.
According to AndroidPolice, the new sharing interface will apparently have an extra line of options for sharing browser-specific content, including a QR code feature, which allows users to generate a QR code and share it with recipients. Then there will be the "Send to your devices" and "Copy link" options. The last option is the built-in screenshot tool, which can assist users in cutting a part of a webpage without having to leave the app. Users can also scroll and screen capture, something that the original parts manufacturer has offered on their Android variants.
QR code generator can currently only open 1 single page allowing users to scan or generate a new code. However, neither of these features worked; There is also no activity done after clicking on the screenshot icon. That means all features are still in the development phase. At the moment, only the "Send to your devices" and "Copy link" options are available.
The 2nd line in the dialog box allows users to share with other applications. When dragging to the right, the "More" option will open Android 10's default share menu. The list of apps will be adjusted according to the user's usage.
Users can enable the new sharing interface by running Chrome Canary and aim to chrome://flags and activate #chrome-sharing-hub and #chrome-share-screenshot tags. If this feature remains hidden in the Canary version, it will also be interesting to wait for what improvements and/or changes will be made before the final release of the standard version.
